Thomas Jefferson
was elected the third President of the United States in 1800,
and served two terms from 1801 to 1809. Thomas Jefferson is best
known as the primary author to create the Declaration of
Independence, and his achievements during his Presidency was
the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Thomas Jefferson was a wealthy Virginia planer, a forward
thinker, an avid wine lover and a noted gourmet. Before his
Presidency he visited France and brought back many different
selections of wine, and believed that the United States could
also grow grapes to produce various selections of wine. He
was also a well-read man and had over 6,000 books in his
library. The books were purchased from him for $23,950 and
now forms the basis for the Library of Congress in Washington,
D.C.

endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that
among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
