Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt instilled the imagination and adventure into the hearts of men, women and children. As a writer, explorer and soldier, Roosevelt's enormous energy made him one of America's  most beloved and well-respected leaders.

Theodore Roosevelt's accomplishments were many including serving as assistant secretary in the Navy until 1898; fighting in the Cuban war; and was elected governor of New York. Roosevelt served as Vice President of the United States until President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901 -- he then became the 26th President of the United States.

As a visionary and strong leader, Theodore Roosevelt was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for being a mediator to help end the war between Russia and Japan. His work extended to the far reaches of South America as he was a key facilitator in promoting the construction of the Panama Canal.

His adventures and good deeds took him to many parts of the world.  As an avid wildlife conservationist, he enjoyed hunting and lived for a short time in North Dakota. Roosevelt's love of nature and respect for the wildlife inspired him to establish the preservation of our national parks and forests.
